Arrows will be added to the lot to help guide the traffic flow, but until then, please 'follow' the angles for parking.
Please pull straight into spots but not through - this will help ensure the proper flow of traffic at the end of the day and make travel safer for everyone.
Here are the links to the traffic patterns:
* East Lot (School Day) - https://drive.google.com/.../1pZhTr9bBvy_7ht6G.../view...
* West Lot (Evening & Weekend Activities) - https://drive.google.com/.../14twgN16AqHZ7beQRws.../view...
As always, please do not park in the Drop Off Lane or around the 'Island' at the entrance/exit.
Thanks for your assistance!

Fowler Schools are moving all K-12 students to Remote Learning starting on Wednesday, April 28 through the end of the school year. School will be dismissed at 3:25pm and all after-school activities (Elementary Study Hall, HS/JH Band Concert, etc.) will occur as scheduled on Tuesday, April 27.
The move to Remote Learning is in response to the marked increase in positive COVID cases in our community and surrounding counties. Fowler Schools believes this change will help to avoid any additional quarantine groups of students and staff that would negatively impact our ability to deliver educational services and End of Year Activities.
At this point, ALL End of Year activities (Field Trips, Award Ceremonies, Super Kids Day, High School Graduation, etc.) will go on as scheduled!
Teachers and students will communicate via email and Google Classroom for any remaining assignments. Students are still responsible for completing any assigned work!
Grab and Go meals will be available on Thursday mornings, beginning April 29 in the FHS Dropoff Lane, 7:30-9:00am! You will get a week?s worth of breakfasts and lunches! Available to anyone 18 or younger! This service will continue on Thursday mornings through early August!
Additional information will be shared as it becomes available.

End of Year Changes and Capacity Information
On Tuesday, April 20, CHSAA announced a change in the dates of the State Volleyball Tournament. This change created direct conflicts with many of our end-of-year activities, including High School Graduation. It also created a potential shortage of staff that would make normal school operations ineffective. After gathering as much input as possible from Seniors, staff members, and others, several calendar adjustments have been made and are outlined below. We maintained ALL of our End of Year activities! The full Activity Calendar can be seen at https://www.fowler.k12.co.us/en-US/calendar.
Additionally, our spectator event capacities are accurate as of today (Indoor Event 500 spectators; Outdoor Event unlimited). Please keep in mind that these capacity limits could change at a moment?s notice, to more or less restrictive forcing changes in our capacity limits! If these capacities change, we will adjust and communicate accordingly!
Thank you for your understanding & support!

The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) School Nutrition Division is working to identify new sites for Summer Food Programs.
This would be similar to our 'Grab & Go' service that we provided during our Remote Learning but would take place during the summer months when we are not in session, making it easier for children and youth to access a nutritious, no-cost meal this summer.
Please complete the following brief survey by 5:00 pm on Wednesday, April 14 so Fowler School District R4J & CDE can make a determination if we would potentially qualify as a new site - https://forms.gle/rdRQNmCB1dLgkkyg6
You can find more info at https://www.cde.state.co.us/nutrit/summerfoodserviceprogram.

Here's the response we received today from OCHD based on their state-level contacts, denying our variance request to allow additional spectators into our gyms for HS & JH Basketball and Wrestling.
Please know we are continuing to advocate for our students to participate in all activities and for our parents & spectators to attend events!
As always, please contact me with questions, comments, and/or concerns!
Alfie Lotrich, Superintendent/Elementary Principal
--------------------------------------------
From Otero County Health Department:?
I want to thank you for all of the consideration you and your team have put into this. ?I can see the hard work and planning in what you presented and appreciate it all. ?I did send your request up to our contact at the state level and their response is below:
"We are not considering or issuing variances outside of the current PHO scope,?with the exception of private leagues which are now eligible for the CHSAA waiver allowances.?Junior high and high school sports spectators would still fall under the indoor and outdoor events guidance for the host?county's?respective dial level, unless a more restrictive local public health order was in place that?limited or prohibited spectators."?
The Otero County Health Department has not issued a local public health order that is more restrictive than the state, so the state restrictions apply.? Indoor capacity limits are clearly stated on CDPHE's dial at?https://covid19.colorado.gov/covid-19-dial.? Based on the two numbers in the row, we are to go with whichever is fewer.?
This is a fluid and rapidly evolving situation and things?may?change.? OCHD will maintain constant contact with all schools in Crowley and Otero counties and if guidance changes that information will be distributed accordingly.
Posted By: Mr. Lotrich
January 14, 2021 ? As of today, due to the interpretation of the current CHSAA and CDPHE Indoor Event restrictions, Fowler High School and the other Santa Fe League schools will not be allowing any spectators at our High School and Junior High Season B Basketball and Wrestling events. We have applied to the Otero County Health Department for a variance to the attendance limitations and will share any additional information as it becomes available.
All of the SFL schools, including FHS, are planning to provide live video feeds of games and matches. Additional information to access these live streams will be provided in the coming weeks.
Please keep in mind that these situations are subject to change at any moment. We apologize for any inconvenience and are working every day to maximize the opportunities for our students in all areas of their educational experience.
Please contact Alfie Lotrich, Superintendent, with any questions, comments, or concerns.

Fowler Elementary Parents As with many things this year, the Science Fair is going to look a little different.
Current restrictions will keep us from conducting the traditional open house/demonstration event, so we have come up with an alternative way to let students explore science.
Our "Science Exploration Day" will be January 27, 2021. Students will work within their classrooms to explore science in ways guided by their teachers. This will look slightly different for each grade level and details will be provided by teachers to the students in class.
? Kdg thru 3rd: An afternoon of science experiments/engineering design activities in the classroom.
? 4th thru 6th: Each student will give a 3-5 minute science presentation/demonstration to his/her class.
The requirements for the presentation/demonstration will be provided by your child's teacher.
The students and/or groups with the top explorations will present to the entire elementary during the next assembly.
If you have any questions about Science Exploration Day please contact the R4J Science Fair Coordinator, Amy Pieper (amy.pieper@fowler.k12.co.us), or your child's science teacher.

Fowler Schools are moving all K-12 students to Remote Learning starting on Tuesday, November 10. The targeted In-Person return date is Monday, November 30.
The move to Remote Learning is in reaction to the marked increase in positive COVID cases in our surrounding counties and the change in Otero County's level of restrictions.

Students and parents are encouraged to communicate with their teachers via email and Google Classroom. Anyone with device or internet connection issues is urged to contact Fowler Schools.

Today Fowler School District was notified of a positive test in our 2nd Grade classroom. The District is working closely with the Otero County Health Department to determine our next steps. Current CDPHE protocol requires that close contacts of that student be quarantined for 14 days from the onset of symptoms. All of the close contacts who need to quarantine have been notified.
Quarantined students and teachers are to remain at home and may not attend school, any school activities, childcares, or other activities around other people. Students who do not receive a notification from the District are not considered close contacts and are not required to quarantine and may participate in school activities - https://bit.ly/384pMxN.
No other individuals or classes are impacted and the rest of Fowler Elementary and all of the Junior High and High School students will continue with In-Person learning as usual.
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID please call OCHD at 719-468-8083.

Fowler School District worked closely with the Otero County Health Department to determine our steps after we received the information regarding a positive COVID-19 test in our High School.
In the spirit of sharing, here is some additional information for everyone to know!
In-Person Learning: Students attend all parts of school. This is what most of us would consider traditional school. We have been In-Person since August 17.
Remote Learning: Students attend school remotely via Google Classroom, Google Meets, etc. on the same time schedule as In-Person learning. All of our Junior High and High School students will be Remote Learning until October 5.
Quarantine applies to students and teachers who were in Close Contact with the diagnosed individual. This is interpreted as being in the same classroom or other close quarters (same vehicle, etc.). Individuals in quarantine are restricted from physical attendance, activity participation, etc. Several of our Junior High and High School teachers and students are Quarantined and cannot participate in school or activities until October 3.The Health Department will be contacting everyone in our quarantine group.
Based on the known information, the Health Department determined that our Elementary students will be able to continue to attend In-Person.

Today Fowler School District was notified of a positive test in our high school. The District has been working closely with the Otero County Health Department to determine our next steps.
Current CDPHE protocol requires that close contacts of that student (students or teachers who share a class) be quarantined for 14 days from the onset of symptoms. All of the close contacts who need to quarantine will be notified.
Quarantined students and teachers are to remain at home and may not attend school, any school activities, childcares, or other activities around other people.
Students who do not receive a notification from the District are not considered close contacts and are not required to quarantine and may participate in school activities - https://drive.google.com/.../1dM0ztOtDq0P2l8yVpegVuU.../view.
Due to the number of teachers who will be in quarantine, the District decided to move ALL Junior High & High School students to Remote Learning starting tomorrow, Friday, September 25.
All Junior High & High School students will return to In-Person learning on Monday, October 5, 2020.
The Elementary is not impacted and will continue with In-Person learning as usual.
If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID please call OCHD at 719-468-8083.

Due to changes in state & local policy, students can be counted Present on days when they do not physically attend school but are "Actively Engaged" in class - attending via Meets, Zoom, etc. OR working on assigned work etc.
Please know if you choose this option, ALL work will be due as assigned in class - a day for a day will NOT apply. If you are Absent and will not be actively engaged in classwork, you will be considered absent and the day-for-a-day will apply to make-up work.
To qualify, students MUST complete ALL of these steps:
1. A PARENT/GUARDIAN must contact the appropriate office by phone or email and confirm student will be 'Absent Physically but Will Be Working Remotely'
2. The STUDENT must email their Principal & ALL of their teachers to let them know he/she will not be attending physically but will be working remotely.
3. The STUDENT must attend/participate as assigned by each teacher, as appropriate (Google Classroom, Google Meets, previously assigned work, etc).
4. The STUDENT will be responsible for completing & submitting all work ON TIME, as if physically present

Our Return to In-Person Instruction plan was reviewed by the Board on Monday, July 27 and we are a 'GO' for In-Person Instruction - as close to our 'old normal' as possible with a few adjustments/additions on August 17!
There will be some adjustments to entering and leaving the building, going to & eating breakfast and lunch, seating on our buses, additional spacing in the classrooms, extra requests for handwashing, facecoverings for everyone 11 and older, and some other adjustments that you won't even notice!
The Plan and Community & Staff Survey results are available at http://www.fowler.k12.co.us/covid-19-updates-20683169.
Please know that even though this process has been long and complicated, it is still subject to change and we will need everyone's full cooperation to make it work! We don't have all of the answers to all of your questions and are asking for your best efforts to meet the intent of the plan, be cooperative, and flexible!

We continue to target an August 17 reopening. Our goal is still to “return to in-person instruction with a school experience that is as close to 'normal' as possible while considering the safety and security of students and staff and adhering to current Health Department guidelines and rules. “
As we continue to craft our “Return to In-Person Instruction” plan, we are closely working with, and monitoring the continually changing information from, the Otero County Health Department (OCHD), the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment (CDPHE), the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA), and other agencies.
We want our plan to be as complete and accurate as possible before we release it to the public, with the understanding it will continue evolve and update as situations dictate. As of today, we are anticipating releasing our plan during the last week of July.
As additional information becomes available, we will share it via SchoolRush, Facebook & http://www.fowler.k12.co.us/covid-19-updates-20683169 or www.fowler.k12.co.us.
Your patience and understanding are truly appreciated as we work through all of the orders, guidelines, and restrictions in an effort to safely return to school in a way that is as close to ‘normal’ as possible!
Have a great rest of your summer!

Fowler School District R4J is targeting an on-time reopening in August 2020. Our goal is to return to in-person instruction with a school experience that is as close to 'normal' as possible while considering the safety and security of students and staff and adhering to current Health Department guidelines and rules.
We will continue to work with the Otero County Health Department to ensure we are meeting current protocols and precautions. We will continue to emphasize personal health & hygiene, handwashing, and cleaning/disinfecting protocols. We are adding hand sanitizer stations and additional thermometers. We will implement other OCHD regulations regarding social distancing, group sizes, etc. as appropriate. We will provide a more detailed plan for our August return in late July.

In an effort to support Colorado’s families during the COVID-19 epidemic, the Colorado Department of Human Services and Department of Education have teamed up to secure USDA approval to issue Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) benefits to school-age children who would have received free or reduced-price meals during the time that schools have been closed for the 2019-2020 school year. It is also for children who would have been eligible for free or reduced-price meals in schools for March, April, or May due to loss of income in those months. Each eligible household with an eligible child will receive a card with approximately $279 per eligible child that you can use to purchase food at stores that accept EBT.
For families that currently receive SNAP benefits, no action will be needed and benefits will be automatically issued in approximately mid-July. Families that currently do not participate in the SNAP program should visit https://www.colorado.gov/cdhs/p-ebt for application information. You will need your child's SASID number which can be obtained from Kelly Wager at 719-263-4364 or Kelly.wager@fowler.k12.co.us.

Fowler Elementary's Pennies for Patients campaign has started! Over the next 3 weeks our school is helping LLS to cure blood cancers through Pennies for Patients. All proceeds benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) and its mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Each Elementary classroom is working to raise the most in the school to win a celebration party and help us reach our school goal of $2,300. Students and classrooms can create pages.
Every dollar counts! You can email, text, and post this link so that friends and family can help our students cure cancer. Here is the link to donate to our school page- https://events.lls.org/pages/rm/FowlerElementarySchool-2020.

Please keep in mind these guidelines for deciding when to keep your children home from school:
*Temperature above 100.0 – please keep them home until they have been without a fever for more than 24 hours without the use of medications.
*Vomiting or Diarrhea – please keep them home until no vomit or diarrhea for 24 hours without the use of medications.
*Antibiotics prescribed by a physician – please keep them home until they have received the medication for at least 24 hours
*Cold, cough, sore throat, etc. – please use your best judgement and keep them home if they are frequently coughing, complain of difficulty swallowing, or have increased nasal discharge.
Our goal is to reduce the spread of illness – please be considerate of this when making these decisions!
School work that is missed can be completed upon return to school - our main concern is getting & keeping all of our students in good health!

At approx 4:15 today, Bus 16 was involved in an accident. A large wooden spool of fiber optic cable came off of a truck westbound immediately in front of our eastbound bus. The spool impacted the front of the bus, embedded in the engine block and front of the bus. The bus ended up against the guardrail. We had the driver and 1 student on board, both were treated on scene and released by emergency medical personnel. We would like to thank the Colorado Department of Transportation, Colorado State Patrol, Pueblo Sheriff Department, and the Fowler Volunteer Fire Department & EMT's for their help today. We are very fortunate and thankful that no more injuries or damage occurred!
