St. Raymond School 1st - 8th is proud to present our Christmas Nativity Performance at 1:30 PM and 7:00 PM tomorrow Monday, December 17th. The performances will be held in the Church. It is centered around the Nativity presented by our 3rd grade students. Our 1st-2nd and 4th-8th graders will be singing Christmas carols in this year’s show. Students (1st-2nd and 4th-8th) should wear their Sunday best to school on Monday as well as to the evening performance. 3rd graders have specific details from their teachers on dress code. Again this year, St. Raymond will have luminaries glowing around the perimeter of the campus on Christmas Eve. It is a beautiful tradition as these luminaries light the way through the neighborhood to Christmas. In order to do this, we need to drink milk and donate the empty, clean plastic milk cartons! Please bring your empty milk cartons to the school front office or to the Parish Office by Wednesday, December 19th.

The Halloween is almost here. There is a parade on Wednesday, October 31st at 2:00 PM for our Preschool to 5th grade students. It is in the front of school on Elmhurst Avenue (weather permitting) and parents are welcome to attend. Our 6th, 7th and 8th graders have a Halloween party in the gym starting at 1:30 PM. The following are our guidelines on Halloween costumes at school: Group costumes are discouraged. 1. If make-up is part of the costume, please use a minimal amount and it must be applied at home. 2. If your child’s costume includes a mask, the mask may be worn for their class parties and during the parade only and not throughout the day. It is important that we can easily identify your children during school. 3. If weapons are part of the costume, please leave them at home. We are looking forward to a spook-tacular Halloween!

Important Drop off and Pick Up for Thursday, September 13th As many of you know, the parking lot is still under construction. Tomorrow, a major portion of the lot will be repaired and therefore, the south end of the parking lot (Shabonee Entrance) will be closed. For families with younger children in grades 3-5, you may use an alternative drop off/pick up location for Thursday, September 13, 2018. The alternative drop off/pick up will be Fr. Ed’s Driveway on I-Oka St., adjacent to the gym. Teachers will be present and the students will be directed to enter school through the courtyard. We have shown the students the location today, so they are aware. The parking lot should be available on Friday for drop off and pick up. A SchoolRush will be sent to parents to let them know if they need to use the alternative dropoff/pickup. Elmhurst Ave. drop off and pick up will continue as normal. We thank you in advance for your support to ensure safety for all.

We have a reported case of Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease (HFM) at St. Raymond. This is a common viral illness typically reported in preschools and schools in the summer and early fall months. The virus is typically spread by person to person contact. Symptoms usually occur within 3-5 days of exposure. You are generally most contagious in the first week symptoms occur. Symptoms include fever and sores in the mouth and on the hands and feet. The sores will typically turn to blisters which will crust over. Peeling of the hands and feet may occur, but it is harmless. Just like most viruses, there is no treatment for HFM, however, Tylenol or Motrin can be used for fever or pain related to the virus. If your child experiences symptoms of HFM, please contact your pediatrician for an evaluation. In order to prevent the spread of HFM, we ask that any student with a HFM diagnosis remain home until the sores are healing/crusting. As always, hand washing is encouraged to prevent the spread of germs. We are not sending this to alarm anyone but to keep you aware of illness that is brought to our attention.

Graham collected over 220 toys for children at Ronald McDonald House through a toy drive held at our school and the community. Graham was inspired to give back through his own family’s experience at Ronald McDonald House when he was an infant.
